Mocha Lattes and Matcha Lattes

You might have seen on my website or Instagram that I have created a 'Pilates and Lattes' tank. Pilates and lattes are a winning team for me in the morning. You should also know that I'm kind of addicted to Starbucks products. Corporate Starbucks is a bunch of branding geniuses and have me hooked for sure. I assure you that this is not an ad for Starbucks. I just love that I can go into a Starbucks location and order my coffee exactly how I want it and not feel high maintenance about it (#sorrynotsorry). My usual order is a grande mocha latte with almond milk. My second favorite drink of choice is a grande matcha latte with almond milk. (Side note: I switched over to almond milk about 2 years ago when I noticed my stomach reacting differently to the low fat milk I used to drink. I also cut out milk based iced cream and try to cut back on other dairy products as well.) Daily visits to Starbucks end up being pretty pricey so I figured out a way to make my own Starbucks “knock off” drinks at home. As much as I love getting my beverage from a Starbucks barista I realized that not only is making my drink at home more cost affective but also healthier. By making my own latte I get to control how much sugar is in my drink and I can know for sure there’s no high fructose corn syrup being used. So in the best interest of my bottom line and waistline, here are the simple steps I use to replicate my favorite Starbucks pick me ups:

Mocha Latte:

1 Starbucks K-Cup- I use the Breakfast blend but you can use which ever blend you prefer

3/4 cup Warmed Chocolate Almond Milk

Almond Milk Froth to top it off

Health Benefits of Coffee:

  • Contains essential nutrients

  • Boosts mood

  • Boosts energy

  • May increase ability to focus

Matcha Latte:

1tsp Matcha Powder- I use The Match Preserve brand ceremonial grade

¾ cup hot (almost boiling) water - Use a whisk to dissolve matcha and water together

1 tsp Agave

¾ cup Almond Milk Froth to top it off

Health Benefits of Matcha:

  • High in antioxidants

  • Boosts immune system

  • Detoxifies

  • Stimulates metabolism

  • Lowers Cholesterol

Enjoy! Love, Vick
